Connectivity Check

If a VOCOM device is connected via USB but is not detected, use the Connectivity Check to help identify the cause. Connectivity Check attempts to detect and communicate with the USB-connected VOCOM device, then displays the results.

For step-by-step instructions, see Connectivity Check.

Auto Connect

Auto Connect allows the user to toggle (enable/disable) between the “Auto connect function” and the “Auto connect notifications”.

Note: New devices are displayed in the network list. If a device has been configured for the PC, it will automatically reconnect when the PC is restarted.

Mapping

In most cases, the mapping does not need to be changed. This feature should be used only in specific scenarios and by experienced users. An incorrect mapping can prevent the diagnostic application from connecting to the VOCOM device.

For more information, read Mapping.

Log Configuration

Log levels can be changed per log module. The available VOCOM log modules are as follows:

Logging moduleDescriptionScope
J2534Diagnostic communication logsWindows logs and device logs
J2534-1Diagnostic communication logsWindows logs and device logs
RP1210CDiagnostic communication logsWindows logs and device logs
VocomConfigurationVOCOM Config API logsWindows logs
VocomLocateVOCOM Locate API logsWindows logs
VocomServiceVOCOM Service loggingWindows logs

To change the log level for a module:

  1. Open the Menu and select Logs > Log Configuration.
  2. Next to the module you want to adjust, click the three dots.
  3. Select the required log level.
  4. Click Save.

The new log level takes effect immediately after you save. No reboot is required.

Changing the log level for components with the scope Windows logs and device traces affects both the device and the computer. This applies to VOCOM diagnostic APIs such as RP1210C and J2534/J2534-1.

VOCOM Windows logs are stored here: "C:\ProgramData\ACTIA I+ME GmbH\VOCOM II\Log".

Note: Log levels are reset to their default values after a driver/installer update.

Collect Logs

Device logs are typically used for troubleshooting and support cases and may be requested by the help desk.

  1. Click on the Menu > Logs > Collect Logs. Click on "COLLECT" when prompted.
  2. Alternatively, click Download log files from the device (highlighted in red in the image below) and click on "COLLECT".
The logs are downloaded to the default location, and the log folder opens automatically with the latest log files selected.

Change language

VOCOM Configurator supports multiple languages. English is the default display language. Change the display language by:

  1. Open the Options menu.
  2. Select your preferred language from the drop-down list.
  3. Restart VOCOM Configurator to apply the change.

The selected language is also applied to VOCOM Monitor, including its notifications.

Change temperature unit

This setting changes the temperature unit shown for each device in the device list. Change the temperature unit by:

  1. Open the Options menu.
  2. Select Celsius or Fahrenheit from the drop-down list.

The change takes effect immediately. No restart is required.

Update Device Firmware

Device firmware updates are performed automatically. If you need to install a specific firmware version, you can also update the firmware manually. For details, see Update firmware manually.

Reset Configuration

A reset restores the device configuration to its default state:

  • Default device name: Vocom2-xxxxxx
  • Default Wi-Fi configuration: Wi-Fi Access Point
  • Default pairing: Not paired

For more information, see Reset configuration.

J2534 Configurator

Using this option, a user can configure the VOCOM device for J2534 usage.

To select the active J2534/J2534-1 PassThru device, perform the following steps:

  1. In the VOCOM Configurator, click Menu > Advanced > select J2534 Configurator.
  2. In the J2534 Configurator dialog, enter the serial number of the VOCOM device you want to use as the PassThru device on the client PC. The serial number is a 7-digit value in the format 7xxxxxx.
  3. Click OK.

Note: PassThru device settings are reset after a driver/installer update.
