Update the VOCOM driver and firmware

  • The VOCOM driver is the software installed on your computer.
  • The firmware is the software installed in the VOCOM device itself.
  • Keeping both driver and firmware up to date is important to ensure access to the latest features, bug fixes, and performance improvements. Check the latest available driver version in the Downloads page.

Update driver

Driver updates are handled differently depending on the diagnostic application you use.

Workshop Toolbox and Diagnostic Toolbox

For Workshop Toolbox and Diagnostic Toolbox, the VOCOM driver version is automatically updated when the application is updated.

Tech Tool

Note: The VOCOM driver cannot be updated when it is in use by the Tech Tool application. Therefore, Tech Tool must be closed before VOCOM is updated.

1. Open CLUP on your computer and go to Available Updates.

2. Select the available VOCOM driver version.

3. Click Download and wait for the download to complete.

4. Click Install and wait for the installation to complete.

5. If it isn't already connected, connect the VOCOM device to your computer via USB cable or in wireless mode.

6. Wait for the firmware update to complete automatically, then open Tech Tool.

VODIA™

For VODIA™, the VOCOM driver version is automatically updated when the application is updated.

Note: Once the driver update is complete, wait about 10 seconds before opening any diagnostic application. The firmware update will start automatically after a few seconds and will take about 5 minutes to complete. This way you can ensure the firmware update is complete before you start using the diagnostic application.

Update firmware

Firmware updates normally runs automatically. However, you can also update the firmware manually, for example, if you need to install a specific firmware version.

Automatic update of firmware

The VOCOM driver contains the firmware, and the process of updating the firmware is automatic. The VOCOM driver performs the firmware update when an outdated VOCOM device is connected to the computer via USB cable or in wireless mode.

Note: Close all applications that use VOCOM (for example Tech Tool and Workshop Toolbox) before updating the VOCOM firmware. If any of these applications are still running, you will be prompted to close them before the update can proceed.

Update firmware manually

1. Open VOCOM Configurator and click the Menu button.

2. Click on Advanced > Update Device Firmware.

3. Click the Open icon and select the required firmware package, for example VOCOMII_regular_firmware.zip (choose the version you want).

4. Make sure the diagnostic application that uses VOCOM is closed. If the VOCOM device is in use, the Open icon is disabled and you cannot start the firmware update.

Note: The firmware and driver versions must be compatible to ensure a stable VOCOM operation.

5. Click Start update.

6. The firmware update starts immediately. During the update, the VOCOM icon in Configurator turns yellow and the status changes to updating.

7. After the firmware update is complete, the VOCOM device will automatically restart. Wait a couple more seconds to make sure that an FPGA update is not necessary. An FPGA update, if available, will also happen automatically.

8. That’s it! Your VOCOM device is now updated with the new firmware.
