Feature bar

The four main tabs within the feature bar are Information, Configuration, Status, and Test.

Information tab

The content in the information tab appears only after a VOCOM device is paired to a computer.

The Information tab is the default tab when opening the application or when selecting a device from the list. The Information page displays content from the currently selected/paired device.

This tab contains:

  • General information about the VOCOM device that is paired with the computer.
  • Connection information (Type, IP address, MAC address, Network name, Signal strength, and Security type).
  • Version information (Firmware version, FPGA version, and Package date).

Configuration tab

The Configuration tab lets you set the wireless operating mode for the paired VOCOM device: Access Point mode, Android mode (Wi-Fi Direct), or Infrastructure mode.

  1. Current connection mode
  2. Wireless operation modes
  3. Save configuration
  4. Pair/Unpair button
  5. Restart device

You can choose between three wireless operating modes to connect a VOCOM device to a computer or Android device: Access Point mode, Android mode (Wi-Fi Direct), and Infrastructure mode.

Android mode (Wi-Fi Direct) is configured from the Access Point tab. When enabled, the VOCOM device can connect to an Android device.

The current connection mode is shown by both an icon and text. In the example above, the device is operating in Access Point mode.

To change the operating mode:

  1. Select the required mode.
  2. Enter the necessary configuration details.
  3. Click Save configuration to store the settings.
  4. Click Restart device to apply the changes.

Status tab

  1. Refresh list
  2. Clear list
  3. Filter list

In the Status tab, you can view the firmware version of the connected VOCOM device. When you connect the device, VOCOM Configurator automatically updates the firmware if an update is available.

If the firmware is already up to date, the message “Firmware is up to date” is shown. Otherwise, you can manually update the firmware by clicking on "Please update device firmware". For details, see Update driver and firmware.

If any faults occur while using the VOCOM device, the corresponding logged error codes are displayed in this tab. From the Status page, you can view, refresh, clear, and filter the device’s internal error list.

Test tab

The Communication Test checks for activity on the vehicle’s supported communication protocols. It helps verify that the VOCOM device can listen to vehicle traffic and report the voltage levels on relevant OBD connector pins.

Note: This test is passive (listen-only). Depending on the vehicle and its current state, there may be little or no bus traffic, so the test may not always confirm whether a communication issue exists.

The test reports:
  • Ignition signal: Checks for voltage on the ignition pin.
  • J1708: Checks for traffic on the J1708 bus.
  • CAN 1: Checks for traffic on CAN channel 1.
  • CAN 2: Checks for traffic on CAN channel 2.
