Access point mode
When a VOCOM device is paired with a computer in access point mode, it becomes discoverable in VOCOM Configurator only on that paired computer. Other computers cannot see or connect to it.
In the example above, there are two VOCOM devices:
- VOCOM-A is in access point mode but not connected to any PC, so it is not paired.
- VOCOM-B is in access point mode and is connected and paired to PC-2.
As a result:
- PC-2 can see only VOCOM-B in the VOCOM Configurator.
- VOCOM-B is not visible to PC-1, PC-3, or PC-4.
- Because PC-2 is already paired with VOCOM-B, it will not show VOCOM-A in the VOCOM Configurator.
- PC-1, PC-3, and PC-4 can all see VOCOM-A. Therefore, any one of these PCs can connect and pair with VOCOM-A.
To pair a different VOCOM device in access point mode, remove the current preferred device by clicking the X, then pair the new device.
Infrastructure mode
When a VOCOM device is connected in infrastructure mode, it can still be paired with only one computer. However, its visibility to other computers on the same Wi-Fi network depends on whether it is configured for multicast or unicast:
- Multicast: The VOCOM is discoverable by all computers connected to the same access point (same network).
- Unicast: The VOCOM is discoverable only by the specific computer it is assigned to.
In the example above:
- VOCOM-A is multicast and not paired. It is visible to all PCs, and any one of them can pair with it to use it.
- VOCOM-B is multicast and paired to PC-2. All PCs can see it in the VOCOM Configurator, but only the VOCOM Configurator in PC-2 can use it.
- VOCOM-C is unicast to PC-3. Only PC-3 can see it, and only the VOCOM Configurator in PC-3 can use it.
